4/365 A little light reading

You can tell a lot about a person from what they keep on their bookshelves. So what can you learn about me from this shot? Apart from lots of books, there are some things that are precious to me, images of people who are precious to me, and a certain amount of junk that really should be somewhere else! (Not all of it mine!) I love reading, I love my family, I am a very busy person, I have a lot going on in my life, I am organised (up to a point!) but there always seems to be room for more. Top right are some pics of my kids; bottom left is a cat plate designed by Laurel Burch and next to it a picture of my Mum taken c. 1958 by my Dad. We can be pretty sure of the date as she had her very long hair cut once (and once only) after my brother was born. Mum hated it short and hasn't had it cut since. All that you see here is about to go into storage before building work starts, so this is a timely shot.

  1. What a fun, interesting shot Nicky. I like the rectangles and all of the interesting items (sort of like I Spy books!) You will be glad you took this photo.

  2. Love the shot and I love these kind of shots and learning about everyone. I'll have to take a picture of my bookcase!

  3. Lovely shot. What is your favorite book on the shelf?

  4. Giles annuals! For me they evoke the smell of the aging yellowing paper and the many glimpses of the staring long-tailed black cats that populated all the street scenes. I used to love reading Giles, though it was often years after the cartoons were published. Fun way to learn late 20th Century UK history.

  8. Jane asked which is my favourite book on the shelf... ?? Well of the fiction titles visible, it'd have to be Hurricane Gold, a Young Bond story by Charlie Higson. And non-fiction would have to be Art Nouveau by Klaus-Jurgen Sembach. But that's only because the Harry Potter books and my fav William Morris book are on a different shelf!
