279/365 Love is... Autumn leaves

Continuing the autumn theme here, I added a heart shaped leaf from a shrub that hasn't shed its leaves yet to this arrangement. In thinking of a title I was reminded of a cartoon my late Dad liked years ago in the Daily Mail called "Love is..." created by New Zealand artist Kim Grove in the late 1960s. (See here for more details.) Whenever I see a Love is... cartoon I always think of my Dad.

117/365 Alchemilla Mollis after rain

Alchemilla Mollis leaves are covered in tiny hairs which is why the rainwater pools like this and I love it, it fascinates me. It looks like its been sprinkled with diamonds. The forecast was for rain and it has rained steadily although not heavily all day. We've had quite a good dry spell, some proper spring-like weather and have been gardening. I would prefer mainly dry tomorrow afternoon though - going on a photography walk!

28/365 After the rain

Back on track when the clouds lifted enough for a little winter sun to peer through. So I grabbed the camera and picked my way through the sodden grass to the St John's Wort (Hypericum) in my garden. We have 2 varieties and they were both bejewelled with raindrops, catching the light, such as it was. More shots from today in my Picasa album of the same name, link right. Only 3 days to go and month 1 of 12 is over!

1/365 Last Remnants

We had a dusting of snow yesterday and the temperature began to rise a little today, so I headed to Markeaton Park to catch it before it disappeared altogether, trying out my new 70-300mm lens until it got too cold to feel the buttons on the camera. Then I had to edit and choose just one image! That was hard! ;0) One down, 364 to go.

Frosty winter morning

I don't usually relish cold weather, but I have been wanting to take wintry pictures, this being the first winter with my Canon. However, one thing about British weather - you can't rely on it to do what you expect these days! I wonder if I'll capture a good rainbow some time during the coming year?
